Background

Despite the global financial and economic crisis, Africa continues to experience a significant resource boom. Africa has around 30% of global mineral reserves including some of the areas with the highest prospects for new mineral and energy resource discoveries. Mineral resources in Swaziland include gold, diamonds, coal, iron ore, and quarry, among others.

Performance

The mining sector output has grown by more than four times in the past two years mainly due to the coming on stream of iron ore production and improvements in coal production during this period.

MINERALS PRODUCTION AS OF 2013
